ECLATOR assembly for single cylinders

For motorcycles, mopeds, boats, agricultural equipment, etc ... The device is screwed between the suppressor and the spark plug wire.

 

ECLATOR assembly for twin-cylinder motorcycles

 

Special pocket of 2 devices which are screwed on the 2 sides on the wires of spark plugs. Cut the spark plug wires at the location chosen to screw the device (there is no sense). Or, without cutting the wires, unscrew the suppressor, screw the device onto each wire and screw back the supplied spark plug wire pieces, then screw the suppressor back on. For 4 cylinder motorcycles, 2 pouches.

Special pocket of 2 devices fixing on each side of the reel. Disconnect the spark plug wire from each side of the coil. Clean the coil with a cloth. Fit the cap side ignition enhancers to the coil. Exchange the caps of the existing wires with the caps supplied, which fit the device. Plug the wires back into the top of the unit.

Cut the wire connecting the magneto to the spark plug and screw the spark gap on each wire, or lengthen the spark plug wire without cutting it, by adapting another piece of spark plug wire to the end of the device.

Installation of the Eclator ignition booster for distributor or male output coil

After 1980, some vehicles are equipped with a male output coil and distributor. Disconnect the coil connecting the wire to the distributor, replace the long cap with the short cap provided so that the terminal can fit into the device. Connect the cap side ignition booster to the distributor then reconnect the wire.

Or replace the coil wire with a spark plug wire that comes out male on one side and female on the other. All the same length. This is a special model, please specify in the order.

IGNITION CONTROL AND SCREW ADJUSTMENT

The engine will not start. Check the condition of the spark plugs, replace if necessary. Remove the distributor cap, taking care to identify the spark plug wires. Check the condition of the central coal and the peripheral studs. Clean the inside of the head with a dry cloth Screw adjustment: Remove the finger from the distributor, turn the engine by hand or with the crank so that the cam of the distributor spreads the flat screws as far as possible, check the condition of the contacts, adjust if necessary so as to obtain a gap of 04 mm in releasing the fixed contact support screw.

Coil control without battery

All you need is a multimeter to test a coil Resistance value expressed in ohms Checking the "low voltage" primary Connect one tip to the + terminal of the coil and the other to the breaker terminal The switch should be set to 20 or 200 ohms The value must be between 0.8 and 5 ohms

Control of the "high voltage" secondary Connect one tip to the breaker terminal and the other tip to the high voltage output of the coil. The switch should be set to 20 k ohms The value must be between 6000 and 8000 ohms

Difficult hot starting

After a few kilometres, the coil is hot and starting becomes impossible In most cases, the regulator is faulty or the rocker arms need to be adjusted (too tight). Battery check Use a multimeter The switch should be set to 20 volts Connect the red tip to the + of the battery, the black tip connected to the - of the battery The value must display at least the voltage of the battery (6 or 12 volts minimum) Charge controller control Same operation and start the engine by accelerating up to 2000-2500 rpm The multimeter must indicate, for a 12 V battery, a value between 13 and 15 volts; for a 6 V battery, between 6.5 and 8.5 volts Above, the regulator is defective, the battery charges too much, the coil receives too many volts and heats up, resulting in a bad hot start.

Classic mounting

Disconnect the wire connecting the COIL to the DISTRIBUTOR, either to the COIL or to the DISTRIBUTOR. Clean the head of the distributor and the coil with a dry cloth to remove traces of grease. Open the terminal of the device so that it makes good contact with the assembly. Fit the "ECLATOR" ignition enhancer on the cap side to the COIL or DISTRIBUTOR. Then reconnect the wire in the upper part of the device, taking care to insert it
